Attention OCC Students!

Have you written an outstanding research paper for an OCC class?

The OCC Libraries are once again rewarding outstanding student work and this year, thanks to our co-sponsor, the OCC Foundation, the award amounts are even higher!

1st place = $ 250
2nd place = $ 150
5 Honorable mentions = $50 (one per campus)

Make your hard work pay off and submit your paper!

Here are the award details:

  • Research papers will have been written for an OCC course during the Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 semesters.
  • Students may submit only one paper 
  • First day to submit a paper: November 30, 2020 
  • Last day to submit a paper: February 14, 2021 March 7, 2021

What makes a research paper outstanding? Review the evaluation criteria that will be used to judge research papers. 

Submission Information:

Please ensure that all parts of the submission form are filled out. In addition to the submission form, a waiver form must also be signed and uploaded in order to be considered for this award. Listed below are the items necessary for submission completion, which include the submission form, a link to the waiver that must be signed, and the submission portal for the signed waiver. 


Starting November 30th, papers may be submitted via the OCC Library Research Paper Competition online form.

Sessions may be scheduled at Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Evenings and weekends may be arranged by request.

OCC Libraries Offering One Credit Hour Course

Looking for one more class to complete your Fall 2020 schedule? Check out:

LIB 1000- Introduction to the College Library and Information Resources (LIB-1000-O7201)
  • Taught by library faculty,  this course will introduce students to library resources and basic research skills necessary for college readiness. 
  • Open to ALL students; no textbooks! 
  • English/ESL Placement: Placement into ENG 1055 or higher (or placement into ESL 1011 or higher for students taking the ESL sequence of courses.)
LIB 1000 will be offered online as a late-starting class meeting Tuesdays at 1:00pm-2:55pm beginning October 27.

Outstanding Research Paper Award Winners Announced

The winners are in! Forty- Seven students entered the First Annual Outstanding Research Paper Award Competition sponsored by the OCC Libraries and Student Life.  OCC Library Faculty were pleased with the response, as many of the details of submitting papers had to be revised due to the coronavirus closure of the campuses. Papers were judged on information and reasoning, the quality and variety of references, citation usage, readability, and of course, grammar and spelling! Each of the 5 physical campus library locations, AH, HL, OR, RO and SF, awarded a 1st prize of $75.00 and a 2nd prize of $25.00.  All of the award winners were excited and very appreciative to learn their papers were selected! 

And the winners are:

Auburn Hills:

Limited Library Hours During Mid-Winter Recess

The OCC Libraries will be open for limited hours during the Mid-Winter Recess from March 2 through March 7.  The hours for the campus libraries will be Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm and closed
Saturday March 7.

Celebrate Black History Month Through Reading

OCC Libraries in partnership with the College Committee for Diversity and Inclusion are proud to participate in the National African American Read-In on February 4-18, 2020.

OCC Students and employees are invited to hear readings or read a brief passage aloud from books written by African American authors. The goal of this event is to celebrate Black History Month and bring awareness about the contributions African Americans have made to the literary world.

Events will be held on:

Martin Luther King, Jr.: Information and Resources at the OCC LIbraries

The 2020 Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation will take place on Friday, January 17th at the Orchard Ridge Campus Smith Theater from 10 am-11:30am.  Admission is free, see the flyer for more information.
